Slap (2004) DV / 2m 51s
This film is one in a series of shorts I produced at the RCA based on cinematic language being use to take things out of context. The argument in rapidly cut so that no subject matter is heard. It builds up to a slap in the face. Although this is the most violent and impulsive gesture of this piece, the act of slowing it down so drastically (0.9 seconds slowed to 1.5 minutes) and placing ambient music (with the kind permission of Brian Eno) over the top makes it appear gentle and considered.
